A PSALM IN LIVING COLOR

Scripture Reading: Psalm 42

I have read the book of Psalms many times during my life. Each year I participate in my daily Bible reading program that takes me through the entire Bible. I know, then, that I have used my eyes to read the book of Psalms at least a dozen times.  The I mention this is that I actually saw a Psalm with my physical eyes. Confused? Let me explain.

One summer, my dad and I stopped at a bridge that crosses a local creek. We had stopped to cast our line a few times and try to catch a few Northerns. As we were walking down the bank, rod and reel in hand, I looked up, and about a hundred yards downstream was a doe lifting up her head from getting a drink of water.

That scene is like a snapshot in my mind. A solitary deer, gathering gathering a drink of water in the midst of a stream, surrounded by bright green lily pads, a perfectly clear blue sky overhead and a backdrop of thick woods. The picture I viewed that summer morning was Psalm 42:1 in real life. It was a Psalm in living color. "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God." That portion of Scripture came alive for me that day. It also encouraged my soul to continue thirsting for God, to know Him and to watch for Him every moment.

Prayer: Lord God, help me to seek You with all my heart. I ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
